Disc Golf, otherwise known as Frisbee golf, is a new and innovative recreation sports that is sweeping our nation. Surprisingly, this game has been around since the 70’s according to the Professional Disc Golf Association (Yes, they’ve got their own association), and shares all the same gaming rules as what they politely call “ball golf.” The objective of this game is to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws. Each “hole” is completed by tossing the disc into a wire basket, which is used as a target for the players. If you are interested in playing, he PDGA even provides a handy list of “courses” that you can play disc golf on their website.
Outdoor games such as disc golf are great for anyone to participate in. They’re a fun way to enjoy a sport that takes itself just as seriously as its players do. Games like disc golf are also a great way for people who might not be otherwise interested in traditional sports like golf to experience the enjoyment of playing outdoors with friends. Disc golf is easy to join, because the only required equipment is a common Frisbee.

Every year, just like in “ball golf,” several tournaments are held to determine the best-of-the-best in Frisbee golf. One of the major tournaments is the PDGA National Tour, which consists of 10 events and is used to showcase such a unique outdoor event. From the 10 events, the results from their top four final results will be taken into account. The points earned in these qualifying events will carry over into placement for the National Tour.
Frisbee golf is not only a fun and challenging recreational sport, but a serious professional one that takes concentration, skill, and a mastering of unexpected obstacles.
